Expecting 20 plus seats from Northeast in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, says Congress president Rahul Gandhi
Setting a target of bagging a minimum of 20 seats from a complete 25 in the Northeast, Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday stated that his party will win the Upcoming Lok Sabha polls 2019 and no-one can stop it. Addressing party’s district and block unit leaders all Northeastern states here, Gandhi stated the Congress will fight the polls focussing on 3 to 4 major issues, including job crisis, farm distress and corruption.
“In 2019 elections, Congress party will win. It’s a reality and no-one can stop that,” he told the range. “I’m expecting 20 plus seats in Northeast from Congress party, nothing under that. However I think gradually alter win 22,” he added.
The Congress had won eight seats within the Northeast in 2014. It got three in Assam, two in Manipur, one each in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram. The BJP had won seven Lok Sabha seats in Assam and something in Arunachal Pradesh, symbolized by Union Minister of Condition for Home Kiran Rijiju.
After ruling the location for a long time, the Congress lost its last bastion in Northeast as BJP ally Mizo National Front (MNF) wrestled Mizoram in December last. The whole Northeast has become ruled by BJP or its allies within the NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance).
Gandhi stated after winning the Lok Sabha polls, Congress people should work at getting back the party to power out of all states, where it had been tossed in a “wrong way”.
“The Congress will fight elections on 3 to 4 different factors in India and also the Northeast. The first is the Citizenship Bill. The Congress stand is obvious that people oppose this Bill. Congress party was for that Northeast and stopped the balance from visiting Rajya Sabha,” Gandhi stated while giving credit towards the prevalent agitation from the Bill
Also, he criticised the federal government for “shoddily” applying the update of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and stated that job crisis is a big issue. The Congress chief stated that there’s an enormous agrarian crisis across the nation and also the youths aren’t getting proper education.
“Narendra Modi isn’t bothered and he isn’t thinking about the issues of those. You want to make Northeast a hub for education. “Corruption and Rafale are massive issues. Rs 30,000 crore was handed to Anil Ambani. Whenever I mention the term ‘Chowkidar’, all say ‘Chowkidar chor hain’. I apologise to any or all the ‘chowkidars’ within this country for putting their credibility in danger, however i am saying just one ‘Chowkidar is chor’,” Gandhi stated.
Claiming that Rs 3.5 lakh crore loans of massive corporates were waived off and mentioning that five airports happen to be paid to “Modi’s friend”, the opposition leader stated paying from the country’s sources to some couple of industrialists in “wholesale” is really a massive trouble in the Lok Sabha polls.
