Congress or AAP, who will stand as a opposition party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections?
Looking at the current scenario of Indian politics it is quite evident that defeating BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections is not going to be easy. In such circumstances, the question that arises is which party will play the role of the principal opposition party AAP or Congress. AAP is a relatively new party in Indian politics and it had started on a positive note as they represented the common people while on the other hand, Congress is an old party with a strong cadre.
AAP leader Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has had his moments of glory when he won the Delhi assembly elections and received a majority after resigning from the post earlier but since then he has become a symbol of mockery. People don’t seem to be trusting him and believe that the way he behaves is nothing but a facade to fool the public. On the other hand, Congress has received a boost in their morale and seem to be on a stronger footing when compared to AAP after the five state assembly elections in which they were able to receive a maximum number of seats in Punjab, Manipur, and Goa, although was able to form a government only in Punjab.
Why Congress seems to be the principal opposition in Lok Sabha2019 elections?
Aam Aadmi Party seemed to be quite confident that they will be winning over Congress and BJP in Punjab elections and focused a lot of attention on Punjab still all their calculations went wrong and Congress emerged victoriously. On the other hand, Congress has experience which is definitely going to be a key factor when it comes to the Lok Sabha elections. Although both the parties seem to lack right leaders still, Congress seems to be in a better position. AAP seems to be more of a state party just like BSP and Samajwadi Party, although it has amazed everyone with its win in Delhi still they have not been able to emerge as a Central party.
Also, the recent civil wars within the AAP has degraded their reputation and have created serious problems for them.
What can give AAP a chance to emerge as a principal party in 2019 Lok Sabha elections is if they get their act together and are able to maintain their dignity in the present Delhi government by not giving into corruption and malpractices then they may stand a chance. They need to fulfill the wishes of the “ AAM AADMI.” Although it seems to be an unlikely scenario as they are still new to Indian politics and people still consider them to be a noobie. Maybe in another five to seven years, they may get stronger and then pose a threat to the major parties.
It may be possible that AAP may turn out to be a major opposition in the future but as of now, they are not on a similar footing with Congress and BJP who have been the dominant parties at the center. AAP needs to work more and strengthen their present condition.
